Legrand said she did not feel creative at all for five or six months after the Bloom tour. The songs were written in Baltimore between 2012 and 2014 and recorded in a Louisiana studio with Coady, the band dropping much of the live drumming in favor of old drum machines, which they called going back to their roots; the vocal loop on Sparks was caught by accident at a soundcheck in Bristol. A college choir sings on Days of Candy. The sleeve is lined in red velvet.
It went to number eight in America and topped the independent and rock charts. Pitchfork said they had never sounded so full and soaring; NME found it increasingly uninteresting. Thanks largely to Space Song, it was certified platinum in 2026.
