Space Song opens with organ, then brings in Scally's slide guitar and a small, eight-bit keyboard arpeggio over a drum machine. Legrand has refused to interpret it: in 2022 she told Pitchfork she had never tried to understand it and did not want to, that you respect it and leave it alone. Pitchfork's 2015 review called it a sweeping mid-album highlight, and it was the album's only promotional single.
Six years later, in early 2021, it went viral on TikTok, first under a clip of Pedro Pascal laughing and then crying, and by 2022 it had soundtracked more than two hundred thousand videos. Its use in Netflix's Wednesday that December pushed it onto Billboard's rock and alternative chart and the Canadian Hot 100. It has gone multi-platinum in America and platinum in Britain. Legrand compared its second life to a comet doing its own thing. It has been covered live by Vampire Weekend and Claud. It has no official video; the upload here was posted by Sub Pop.
