Produced by Caldato and released as a single on 22 June 1998, it reached number 28 on the Hot 100 and number 5 in Britain, where it was also number one on the dance chart and went Gold. Yauch directed the video as Nathanial Hornblower: a kaiju parody in which a robot fights an octopus-like creature, filmed at Shibuya and Shinjuku stations. It won the 1999 Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group and the MTV Video Music Award for Best Hip-Hop Video that year, and the band performed it at the 1998 awards. The Japanese act Atarashii Gakko! recorded a Japanese version. Setlist.fm counts 213 setlists. Intergalactic was one of the four songs the band played at the UK leg of Live Earth at Wembley in 2007.
