Sugaring Season was her first release on ANTI-, which she had signed with in 2010, and was recorded in Portland, Oregon at producer Tucker Martine's studio. It was largely recorded live with Brian Blade on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass and Rob Burger on keyboards, with extra guitar from Marc Ribot and Ted Barnes and backing vocals from Laura Veirs and Sam Amidon. Many songs were written in open guitar tunings she had learned from Bert Jansch. It reached number 26 in the UK and number 90 on the Billboard 200.

Orton told the Guardian that the real genesis of the record coincided with the birth of her daughter, and that time off after years of never having a minute to breathe had been necessary. Pitchfork described it as "10 songs of sweet resilience delivered by a voice of seemingly effortless expression" and noted that Call Me the Breeze was co-written with Tom Rowlands of the Chemical Brothers. Metacritic gave it 76. Her next album, Kidsticks, was released on 27 May 2016, produced by Orton with Andrew Hung of Fuck Buttons.
