The debut that made her name: acoustic songwriting inside trip-hop and electronic textures.

Trailer Park came out on Heavenly Records on 19 October 1996. It combined folk, electronica and trip hop and earned Orton two Brit nominations and a Mercury Prize nomination in 1997. It peaked at number 68 in the UK and sold 300,000 copies. She had wanted to call it Winnebago, she said in a 1996 interview, and the title she ended up with conjured for her filmic American images of transience and dislocation.
The opening single She Cries Your Name had first appeared in a different form on William Orbit's Strange Cargo Hinterland. The album also includes her cover of Phil Spector's I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine. Pitchfork credited the production to Andrew Weatherall and Victor Van Vugt, and singled out Tangent, Touch Me With Your Love, Galaxy of Emptiness and Someone's Daughter. BBC Music's Chris Jones called it "a very English record". A two-disc Legacy Edition appeared on 10 March 2009.
