Pass in Time is about the death of Orton's mother. It runs 7:17 and is a small band performance: Orton on vocals and guitar, Will Blanchard on drums, David Friedman on vibraphone, Dr. Robert on guitar and Terry Callier on backing vocals. Dr. Robert also produced and mixed it, and it was recorded at The Church in London.
Reviewing Daybreaker in 2002, Pitchfork named Pass in Time among her occasional flashes of brilliance. When Orton's 2003 compilation appeared it took the song's name, Pass in Time: The Definitive Collection.
