Sam Jones plays bass and Philly Joe Jones drums on the trio tracks, and "Lucky to Be Me", "Peace Piece" and "Epilogue" are solo piano. The cover carries endorsements instead of a photograph, from Miles Davis (he plays the piano the way it should be played), George Shearing, Ahmad Jamal and Cannonball Adderley. AllMusic gave it four stars, and Colin Larkin ranked it number three in his 50 All-Time Overlooked Jazz Albums. S. Victor Aaron at Something Else! picked "Tenderly" as the best track and noted that "Peace Piece" reworks Bernstein's "Some Other Time".
