Al Kooper wrote it and sang it, and it opens side one after the Overture, running 5:57. It got some play on progressive rock radio. Lipsius later played a saxophone solo on it at a Kooper concert at Town Hall in New York.

From 2002 to 2004 Paul Shaffer played it regularly before the last commercial break on Late Show with David Letterman. The performances grew more animated, and guests took part in a cape routine borrowed from James Brown. Donny Hathaway covered it in 1973 on Extension of a Man, and later versions include Gary Moore in 2008, Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa in 2013, and Amy Winehouse live in Paris in September 2007.
