The lead single from 13 was produced by William Orbit, with the London Community Gospel Choir on backing vocals. Albarn and Coxon wrote the lyrics about Albarn's split from Justine Frischmann. It reached number two in the UK and went Platinum there.
Audiences have long sung Coxon's parts, and at Reading in 2003, with Coxon away, Albarn told the crowd that everyone needs to sing the song. The band played it at the 2009 reunion shows, and with the gospel choir at Wembley in 2023. In 2013 Albarn and Coxon performed it for the Teenage Cancer Trust with Paul Weller and Noel Gallagher. It appeared in a Co-op Christmas advert in 2017.
The single sold 176,000 copies in its first week and was held off number one by Britney Spears's ...Baby One More Time. It was nominated for Best British Single at the 2000 Brit Awards, which Robbie Williams won. Blur played it at the VPRO Studio Amstel show in Amsterdam on 25 February 1999, a secret set for Dutch radio that previewed almost all of 13.
