Soul Limbo features a marimba solo by Terry Manning and cowbell by Isaac Hayes. Its title refers to the limbo, the Trinidadian dance and game that had surged in popularity in the United States from the mid-1950s. It uses a chord progression that also drives 1950s and 1960s hits such as La Bamba, Louie Louie and Wild Thing.
In the United Kingdom it is best known as the theme to the BBC's television cricket coverage and to radio's Test Match Special. For the 1999 Cricket World Cup the Barmy Army, a group of England supporters, recorded Come on England to its tune. The English punk band Snuff covered the song.
