Before You Go was released in 1965 and is led by its title track, a number one single written by Owens and Don Rich. Among the album's twelve songs are the instrumental Steel Guitar Rag, a cover of Leiber and Stoller's Charlie Brown with Doyle Holly, and the Owens original Raz-Ma-Taz Polka. AllMusic's Richie Unterberger described the record as having the usual competent original material and accomplished guitar picking, with occasional instrumentals for a change of pace.
