Open Up Your Heart reached number one on the Billboard country albums chart. Sessions took place at Capitol's Hollywood studio on 23 and 24 August 1965, on 15 February 1966 and in April 1966. Sundazed reissued it on CD in 1995 with two bonus tracks, the title song and Think of Me. AllMusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine said it stays firmly within the trademark Bakersfield sound, with slight moves toward material that was a little sillier and a little poppier.
