"Door Peep" was the duo's first single, made in 1969 for Coxsone Dodd's Studio One. The session also included Cedric Brooks on saxophone. Rodney came to Dodd after meeting Bob Marley, who was heading to his farm with a donkey, buckets, a fork and a cutlass. Rodney recalled asking how to get into the music business, and Marley telling him to check Studio One. Of the recording itself he told GRAMMY.com: "I went there on a Sunday and the next day I recorded it, my first song, my first time recording." The single did poorly on the Jamaican charts.
Rodney returned to the song as the ninth track of Man in the Hills in 1976, where it runs 2:40.
