Dancin' and Prancin'
His 1979 Salsoul album of four extended dance pieces, headed by "Jingo".
Candido, 1979
Dancin' and Prancin' (Salsoul SA-8250) was produced by Joe Cain, Salsoul's general manager for its salsa line, who had produced Thousand Finger Man and Beautiful; Derek's Music Blog names The Power Station in New York as the studio, a detail the other source does not give. It holds four extended pieces: "Dancin' and Prancin'", "Jingo", "Thousand Finger Man" and "Rock and Shuffle (Ah-Ha)". Woody Cunningham and Louis Small wrote the title song and "Thousand Finger Man", and Carlos Franzetti wrote "Rock and Shuffle". Candido played congas, bongos, cowbells, tambourines and tom-toms; Louis Small played piano and keyboards and arranged, Cunningham on drums and Norman Durham on bass (both of Kleeer), Prince Joseph on tenor sax and Kenny Warden on flugelhorn. The two sources on personnel differ in other names.
The album did not chart, but "Jingo" reached number 21 on the US disco chart, and a critic called the album a minor classic. Big Break Records reissued it in 2013 (CDBBR 0138), remastered by Nick Robbins, with bonus tracks including the original 12-inch of "Jingo" and Shep Pettibone's 1983 remix.
