"The Jamestown Ferry" was written by Bobby Borchers and Mack Vickery and first recorded by Tanya Tucker in July 1972 at Columbia Studio in Nashville with Billy Sherrill producing. It came out in October 1972 as a double A-side with "Love's the Answer", 2:53, and on her debut Delta Dawn, reached number five on the Hot Country chart in February 1973 and number one on RPM Country Singles in Canada. Barbara Mandrell covered it on The Midnight Oil (1973). A lyrics site summarizes it as a breakup song in which the narrator cannot accept that she has left; no remark from Crockett on the song itself was found.

Crockett has recorded it three times: on Honky Tonk Jubilee (2017, 3:06), live on Live from the Ryman (recorded November 14, 2022) and again on Lonesome Drifter (March 14, 2025), which Wikipedia calls a remix and the press a re-recording. Our upload is the official video, whose director and date were not verified; Rolling Stone ran a story on it. Setlist.fm shows it as his most-played song, 233 of 610 setlists, with performances including The Next Waltz at MusicFest Steamboat on January 26, 2018. Tucker joined him on the second verse at Red Rocks, a YouTube title dating it to September 12, 2024 as his Red Rocks debut while Whiskey Riff, in August 2025, says June and calls it a finale; the date is unresolved. No chart history for his version was found.
