CHVRCHES, 2018

Released
25 May 2018
Recorded
February to December 2017
Studio
Los Angeles, New York and London
Label
Virgin EMI Records and Goodbye Records
Producer
Greg Kurstin (co-producer)

The band started work on 7 February 2017 in Los Angeles, and the album was also recorded in New York and London. Miracle is the only song recorded in the United Kingdom. It was co-produced by Greg Kurstin, the first time the band had worked with outside producers, and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics was in the studio with them in February 2017. Matt Berninger of the National sings on My Enemy, and Ian Chang plays drums on God's Plan. Mayberry said that after Every Open Eye they wanted to work with a producer and to be pushed to take risks, and that if the songs were going to be more pop they should be aggressively pop.

Singles were Get Out, My Enemy, Never Say Die, Miracle and Graffiti. The album entered at number 7 in Britain, selling 11,763 copies in its first week, and at number 11 on the US Billboard 200, topping the US alternative and rock albums charts. Alexis Petridis of the Guardian said Graffiti and the closer Wonderland claim squatters' rights in your brain, while warning that its hooks risk sounding formulaic. The Love Is Dead Tour ran from 2018 to December 2019 with Jonny Scott as live drummer for the first time.
