Let Us Play! was released in September 1997 and made the UK Top 40, reaching number 33. It paid homage to the greats who inspired the duo, with guest appearances by Grandmaster Flash, Steinski, Jello Biafra, Jimpster, The Herbaliser, Talvin Singh, Daniel Pemberton and Selena Saliva. Its cut-and-paste method was compared to Dadaism and William Burroughs.
The CD edition carried a second disc with an alternate Atomic Moog 2000 and an interactive toybox of Coldcut games, toys and videos. Hex built the multimedia CD-ROM and later turned the software into the engine for the Let Us Play! world tour. Every Home a Prison, with Jello Biafra, used a backing track generated with the Playtime software. The album includes Timber, whose video was shortlisted at the Edinburgh Television and Film Festival in 1998. A remix companion, Let Us Replay!, followed in 1999, and Pitchfork's James P. Wisdom said it makes the grade and then some, with a free demo disc of Coldcut's new video and audio editing software included.
