Sound Mirrors was released in January 2006, and four singles came from it, among them the Top 75 hit True Skool with Roots Manuva. Guests included John Matthias, Annette Peacock, Robert Owens, Saul Williams, Fog, Mike Ladd and Jon Spencer, Amiri Baraka, Soweto Kinch, Mpho Skeef and Dom Spitzer. A 100-date audiovisual world tour followed.
True Skool became the main theme of the video game FIFA Street 2. Mr Nichols has been used as background music for Adult Swim bumps, and Everything Is Under Control appears in Driver: San Francisco. Pitchfork's Jess Harvell wrote that the album is not a cut-and-paste DJ record per se but is constructed in the same way, and judged that there was no center to it. Looking back in 2016, Philip Sherburne called it an eclectic assemblage that could not quite decide what it wanted to be.
