Go! was the third single from Be, released on 14 June 2005, and the one that charted highest, reaching 79 on the Billboard Hot 100. Kanye West produced it from a sample of Old Smokey by Linda Lewis, with John Mayer and West on background vocals, Num Amuntehu on percussion and A-Trak scratching. Common, West and Mayer were inspired to make a song after seeing the 2004 film Ray. Mayer told Common to write about fantasies, and Common wrote it despite being hesitant about being influenced by a musician from outside hip-hop. It was recorded at Sony Music Studios in New York and Encore Studios in Burbank.

West, MK12 and Convert directed the video, which shows Common in a house whose surroundings keep changing. Entertainment Weekly named it the fourth best music video of 2005. Remixes with Joy Denalane, by West and by Jazzanova, were released as singles, and J. Cole rapped over the beat on Knock On Wood Freestyle, from his mixtape The Blow Up.
