Written by Margo and Michael Timmins, Misguided Angel was the final song recorded on 27 November 1987. The band had barely rehearsed with most of the guest musicians. After paying a security guard $25 for two extra hours, they finished the day with this song in a single take. It was issued as a single in 1989.
It stayed in the live set. A broadcast recording from the Bathurst Street Theatre in Toronto on 12 April 1996 holds a version, and it appears on the live albums 200 More Miles and Waltz Across America. John Timmins, who left the band in early 1986, played guitar with Margo and Michael on stage in Toronto on 31 March 2005, and that night's songs included Misguided Angel, his first live performance of it. For the 2007 remake Pitchfork's Stephen M. Deusner thought Natalie Merchant's presence overly somber, especially on this song.
