Fall at Your Feet

Finn wrote the chorus at the family home on Osborne Street in Melbourne, but the first verse was different. The basic tracks cut in Los Angeles came out fast and rocky, and when vocals were added in Australia, Froom felt the emotion was missing. After a loose day in the studio Finn played a melody he had written at seventeen; Froom suggested putting it with the chorus, and the next day it worked. Finn wrote the bridge on the spot, and Tim Finn sang its high part. Finn called it a convoluted one, and Froom said the result sounded inevitable.

It reached number 17 in Britain and went three times platinum in Australia, and in 1993 it won the APRA award for the Australian work most performed overseas.

Live and covers

The band first played it at I.D.'s in Melbourne in September 1990, before Woodface was out, and setlist.fm logs more than five hundred performances since, level with Weather with You behind only Don't Dream It's Over. It was part of the 1996 farewell. Boy & Bear's 2010 version came fifth in the Triple J Hottest 100, Jesse Cook closed Free Fall with a flamenco take, and Cyril and Dean Lewis recorded it in 2024.

The upload in the hypersongs web is not the Woodface recording but a 2020 performance from the band's Live From Home lockdown series, with Neil Finn, Nick Seymour, Mitchell Froom, Liam Finn and Elroy Finn each recording at home.
