Holmes's third studio album arrived in 2000 with contributions from Bobby Gillespie, Sean Gullette, Jon Spencer, Martina Topley-Bird and Carl Hancock Rux. 69 Police was used in the closing scene of the 2001 remake of Ocean's Eleven and appears on that film's soundtrack.
Most reviews were positive. AllMusic's John Bush called it a vast improvement on Let's Get Killed and wrote that it is very much a fully formed record. Pitchfork's Stuart Berman called it a tour de force and, in another review, a blaxploitation masterwork. In 2010 he picked out Living Room for its inner-city claustrophobia and Hey Lisa for its widescreen, psychedelic splendor, and named Slip Your Skin as Gillespie's star turn.
