Buddy

The single remade as a Native Tongues posse cut, with a dancefloor bassline and a video that admits it makes no sense.

The 12-inch remix, Buddy (Native Tongue Decision), runs 7:17 and features Q-Tip, Phife Dawg, the Jungle Brothers, Queen Latifah and Monie Love. It borrows the bassline of Taana Gardner's 1981 song Heartbeat and contrasts with the laid-back album version. Trugoy said the Native Tongues came together after a Boston show with the Jungle Brothers, and that when they joined a De La Soul session, the group happened to be doing Buddy. He said it was not about business. The video was introduced by Prince Paul, who explains that buddy simply means body, and one caption in it says the video makes no sense. Phife Dawg is in the video, but his verse is cut from the mix used there. Chi-Ali makes a cameo.

Billboard and Stereogum ranked it number one and number three on their 2023 lists of the ten greatest De La Soul songs. On 5 February 2023, Posdnuos performed part of it in the 65th Grammy Awards tribute to 50 years of hip-hop.
