A single that reached number 18 in the UK. Its tune is heavily based on Hall and Oates's I Can't Go for That (No Can Do), and it also samples Sly Stone's Crossword Puzzle, the Detroit Emeralds' Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms), the Emotions' Best of My Love, Funky 4 + 1's That's the Joint, a Turtles song and the Dragnet theme. It is a cautionary tale about drug use, in particular base, otherwise known as crack cocaine. De La Soul took up the subject again from another angle on De La Soul Is Dead, in My Brother's a Basehead.

Posdnuos explained that a harmonizer let him place the beginning of I Can't Go for That over a Sly Stone sample and change the pitch so that they fitted. The Say No Dope Mix runs to 6:15, and the single's B-side, The Mack Daddy on the Left, has Chi Ali as a guest.
