Tommy Boy released it in May 1991 as the lead single from De La Soul Is Dead. It is a party jam about overzealous fans who pursue the group with demo tapes, in the hope of getting an endorsement, and it was inspired in particular by Breakestra frontman Miles Tackett. Maseo raps a verse. It reached number one in Finland, Greece, Switzerland and on the UK Dance chart, and was a top-10 hit in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the UK.
It is built on the Whatnauts' Help Is on the Way, though it was long assumed to sample Fat Larry's Band, whose song replays the same bassline. The chorus interpolates Curiosity Killed the Cat's Name and Number, the bass in the introduction is from Lou Johnson's Beat and the drum break is from the Honey Drippers' Impeach the President. The saxophone on the single version is original. Mark Romanek directed the black-and-white video, in which Prince Paul appears as an artist trying to hand over his tapes. Everett True named it Single of the Week in Melody Maker. Jaheim interpolated it on his 2009 single Ain't Leavin Without You.
