Kaputt
The ninth Destroyer album: nine songs of soft synthesizers, saxophone and trumpet, the band's best-known record.
Destroyer, 2011
The American CD and digital edition runs 50:08; the European CD and vinyl run 70:06, adding "The Laziest River" and, on vinyl, a side of bonus pieces largely by the keyboardist Ted Bois. Players on the record were Bejar, Bois, Pete Bourne, Nicolas Bragg, Collins, Joseph Shabason, Carswell and J.P. Carter on trumpet; Sibel Thrasher sang backing vocals. Kara Walker gave Bejar cue cards after Merge invited her to contribute to its twentieth-anniversary box set, and one track, "Suicide Demo for Kara Walker", carries her composition credit.
Reviews included the Guardian at five out of five, NME at 8 out of 10, AllMusic at three and a half stars and Christgau at B-plus. Chart positions were not found.
