Is It Any Wonder?

"Is It Any Wonder?" is track six on the debut, 4:36 on Bandcamp and 4:37 on MusicBrainz, and the B-side of the 7-inch "Make a Change" (2017). Jones, Frazer and Rhein co-wrote all the album's songs but one, so it is presumably a three-way credit. Frazer sings the high part in a delicate falsetto, as Paste puts it, with Jones harmonizing.

On August 8, 2017 (Paste's 2023 article says August 28) the band recorded a session at Paste Studios in New York with "Smile", "Is It Any Wonder?" and "True Love". It was the first track from the session to gain traction on Paste's YouTube channel, partly through the Chicano lowrider community who adopted it as an anthem, and Paste said in October 2023 that it had about 40 million views against about 16 million for "True Love". Dead Oceans released the session as Live at Paste (October 2023). Live versions are on Live Vol. 1 (4:11) and the deluxe edition (Live from Boston, 4:11). Whether our upload is that session video is not verified, and no artist statement about the lyrics and no covers or samples were found.
