Hugh Jones, who had engineered early Bunnymen albums, produced Siberia. The band was McCulloch, Sergeant, Paul Fleming on keyboards, Simon Finley on drums and Peter Wilkinson on bass. The record received mixed reviews and was the band's first album not to enter the UK top 75, though Metacritic averaged 66 from 17 reviews. In Of a Life, McCulloch sings of wanting a song to learn and sing, a nod to the 1985 compilation.
