Your Love Is Like a Flower
A song credited to Scruggs, Flatt and the mandolinist Everett Lilly, track ten of Foggy Mountain Jamboree.
Flatt and Scruggs, from Foggy Mountain Jamboree (1957)
"Your Love Is Like a Flower" is credited to Scruggs, Flatt and Everett Lilly and is track ten of Foggy Mountain Jamboree, 2:53. Its recording date is not established: the album spans 1951 to 1955, and Lilly, a mandolinist born in Clear Creek, West Virginia in 1924 who later played with his brother Bea as the Lilly Brothers of Boston, joined the band in 1951, which would fit the early part of that span, though no source states it. It does not appear in the first two Columbia sessions of November 21, 1950 and October 24, 1951 as listed by DAHR. Compilation appearances run 2:36, which suggests a different cut or edit.
A Peghead Nation banjo course calls it a Flatt and Scruggs jam standard, taught in J. D. Crowe's style, and the Bluegrass Album Band covered it on Volume 2 (Rounder, 1987). It should not be confused with "You Are My Flower", a different 1964 Columbia single. Nothing about its meaning from the writers, no chart history and no setlist data were found.
