Embody first appeared in 2014 on Affirms Glinting, one of Kline's self-released Bandcamp albums, and was rebuilt with the full band as the fourth track on Next Thing. It was not a single. Pitchfork's Kevin Lozano counted it among the album's songs that had earlier existed in acoustic form.
The lyric names Gabrielle Smith of Eskimeaux, who played on the record, and Emily Sprague of Florist, both friends from Kline's New York DIY circle. Nina Corcoran of Consequence of Sound read them as symbols of the grace and lightness that come from human connection, and Treble heard a sweet observation of that same quality. Record Collector's Sammy Maine described it as psychedelic and pulsing.
setlist.fm logs 23 performances, among them the Next Thing release show at Shea Stadium on 2 April 2016 and a 2017 set at Murmrr Ballroom in Brooklyn. The upload in the hypersongs web is the Next Thing studio recording.
