Billboard Brasil describes Andar com Fé as a reaffirmation of faith in uncertain times. In the chorus Gil sings "faia" instead of "falhar" to honour the accents of different regions of Brazil. It is the sixth track on Um Banda Um, and it was also released as a single with Esotérico on the B-side. A video clip premiered on the Globo programme Fantástico on 29 August 1982, showing Gil singing at the Hotel Nacional in Rio.

David Byrne included it in 1989 on the compilation Brazil Classics 1: Beleza Tropical. Jorge Mautner and Nelson Jacobina recorded it in 1992 for Songbook Gilberto Gil, and in 2019 Eldorado FM placed it among the 100 most striking songs of Brazil. For Gil's 78th birthday in 2020 singers and friends recorded it in a video clip. In 2023 he recorded it with the children's channel Mundo Bita. In 2025 a Chinese military band played it at the reception for Lula and Xi Jinping in Beijing.

ECAD ranks it ninth among his most played songs in public performance and eighth among the most re-recorded. In 2024 it was his most played track on Spotify, with more than 52 million plays at the time.
