Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory

Goldfrapp and Gregory recorded most of the album in late 2004 in a small rented house in the countryside near Bath, where they spent some months writing. They later explained that the unpopulated location kept distractions away and that most of the process was very basic. Alison called the writing an electronic and glam cross between Berlin, New York and North-East Somerset. They had never set out to make pop, but the Black Cherry singles had done well in North American clubs, so they chose to write a more dance-oriented album.

Ooh La La was their first song with an electric guitar. Alison named the Roland String synth as one of her favourite keyboards, and Number 1 used a synth and bass arrangement that they kept reusing on the rest of the record. Satin Chic was the duo's favourite song on the album, and The Flaming Lips remixed it for We Are Glitter, a remix compilation released in North America in 2006. The album came in a single-disc edition and a double-disc edition with a hybrid SACD and a DVD.

Reception

Supernature debuted at number two on the UK chart with 52,976 first-week sales, held off the top by James Blunt's Back to Bedlam. It was certified platinum on 13 January 2006 and had sold one million copies worldwide by February 2008. In the United States it peaked at number 138 on the Billboard 200. It was nominated at the 2007 Grammys for Best Electronic/Dance Album, and Ooh La La for Best Dance Recording. The Guardian's Dorian Lynskey called it a brash, beautiful celebration of love and dancing, and AllMusic's Heather Phares called it Goldfrapp's most accessible album. Pitchfork's Nitsuh Abebe was less impressed.
