Everything She Ain't
The lead single from Raised, written in an hour and a half in March 2021, her first top-20 country radio hit and a platinum single.
Hailey Whitters, from Raised (2022)
"Everything She Ain't" was written by Whitters, Ryan Tyndell and Bryan Simpson in March 2021, and produced by Jake Gear. She had a lyric idea during another song and the others developed it, her first write with Simpson and Tyndell since the pandemic; she says they wrote the whole song in an hour and a half. Tyndell sings harmony and Gear added steel guitar, fiddle, banjo and guiro. Released on June 1, 2022 on Big Loud as the lead single from Raised, it runs 2:32 (2:31 on the album listing). Whitters calls it an ode to owning our truth and who you are, while Wikipedia describes it as a putdown of the man's current girlfriend.
It reached number 94 on the Hot 100, 24 on Hot Country Songs, 17 on Country Airplay, 73 on the Canadian Hot 100 and number two on Canada Country, and is certified platinum in the US and Canada. The video was directed by Harper Smith, her creative director, and set at her old high school nicknamed Cow Pie High, where she is crowned homecoming queen, as she was in her senior year. PopMatters's Steve Horowitz wrote on January 27, 2022 that Whitters knows she's just like they are, and more, and compared its tone to early Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves. She sang it on Jimmy Kimmel Live on January 25, 2023, her first late-night television appearance, and Kelly Clarkson covered it on Kellyoke on January 26. No setlist.fm count was obtained, and our upload is assumed to be the studio version.
