Rainbow Seeker

An eight-track album of Sample compositions with a long list of Los Angeles guest players.
Joe Sample, 1978

All eight tracks on Rainbow Seeker were written by Sample, and the album was produced by the Crusaders and issued by Blue Thumb in 1978. The engineers were Rik Pekkonen and Vincent Leslie Jones, with Pekkonen mixing and Bernie Grundman mastering at A&M Studios, and the sessions took place at ABC Recording Studios, Warner Bros Studios and Hollywood Sound Recorders, though not assigned track by track. Stix Hooper plays drums and percussion, Bob Popwell bass, and Paulinho Da Costa percussion; the guitarists vary by track and include Dean Parks, David T. Walker, Billy Rogers, Ray Parker Jr. and Barry Finnerty, the last of whom is the only player credited on "Fly With the Wings of Love".

Session Days calls it Sample's third album, while others count it as his first as a leader since Fancy Dance. A 2021 Cherry Red set from Robinsongs collected it with Carmel and Voices in the Rain, with liner notes by Charles Waring, and puts "Fly with Wings of Love" at CD1 track 5.
