Made at Island Studios in July 1973, a few months after Solid Air, Inside Out put feel and improvisation ahead of song structure. It has been described as his most experimental album and the jazziest in his catalog. Fine Lines and Make No Mistake are fan favorites, and Make No Mistake refers to John Coltrane's A Love Supreme. Outside In and Look In were jazz epics he enjoyed playing live, and an 18-minute live Outside In appears on Live at Leeds. Steve Winwood plays bass and keyboards, and the sleeve thanks Danny Thompson, Remi Kabaka, Winwood, Chris Stewart, Chris Wood, Kesh Sathe and Bobby Keyes. The reissue adds BBC Radio 1 sessions recorded in May and October 1973.
