Karla Bonoff
Her debut: ten songs, nearly all her own, produced by Kenny Edwards with a long list of Los Angeles players.
Karla Bonoff, 1977
Karla Bonoff was produced by Kenny Edwards at The Sound Factory in Los Angeles and mastered by Bernie Grundman at A&M Studios; recording dates are not listed. Bonoff sings and plays piano and guitar, with Andrew Gold, Waddy Wachtel and Edwards on guitars, Leland Sklar and Emory Gordy Jr. on bass, Russ Kunkel, John Ware and Mike Botts on drums, Dan Dugmore on steel guitar and David Campbell on strings, and backing vocals from Linda Ronstadt, Wendy Waldman, Glenn Frey and J. D. Souther. Everything is hers except "Faces in the Wind" by Craig Safan and "Flying High" by Steve Ferguson.
Stephen Holden in Rolling Stone called it an impressive debut marred only by comparisons to Linda Ronstadt, and AllMusic's William Ruhlmann gave it 4.5 stars. It reached number 52 in the US and went gold. Bonoff has called it her favorite, saying a lot of her best songs are on that album.
