Swimming Pools (Drank)

Lamar wrote the song with T-Minus, who produced it, and Dr. Dre and Derek "MixedByAli" Ali mixed it. It was released on 31 July 2012 as the lead single from the album, and it peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its thirteenth week of charting, after a slow climb from number 100. It was his first entry on the UK Singles Chart, at number 63. The lyrics deal with family, alcoholism and peer pressure, and the first verse recalls his grandfather's drinking and death.

Jerome D directed the video, which premiered on 3 August 2012 on 106 & Park. Lamar performed the song on Saturday Night Live on 26 January 2013 and at every show of The Damn Tour, and it was nominated for Best Rap Performance at the 56th Grammys. A Black Hippy remix with Ab-Soul, Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q appears on the Target deluxe edition.
