Totem

The first side of Picture Music, a 23-minute piece over a bongo and drum rhythm.
Klaus Schulze, from Picture Music (1975)

"Totem" is side one of Picture Music, written by Schulze, running 23:53 on English Wikipedia and 23:45 on klaus-schulze.com. Reviews summarized in search results describe a hypnotic bubbling sequencer rhythm with cosmic synth leads, a rhythm that speeds toward a climax and a calm church-organ finale. A longer alternate version of 33:00, "C'est pas la meme chose", comes from the same session and was added to the 2005 reissue.

A companion piece, "Studies for Organ, Keyboard, and Drumset" on disc 12 of the Jubilee Edition, uses the same bongo and drumset rhythm backing; David M. Cline wrote in The KS Circle in autumn 2000 that the last six minutes of each are similar, and that he preferred the Jubilee version. We found no comment from Schulze on the piece, no chart history, video, setlist.fm count, cover or sample, and no performance history.
