Birth of the Cool

Recorded on 22 April 1949, it is credited to Cleo Henry, a pseudonym of Davis and Evans, and arranged by Evans. It is one of the eleven pieces on the Birth of the Cool compilation.

The piece is credited to the pseudonym Cleo Henry, the maiden name of Davis's mother, and is in F major. Pitchfork called it a lissome swinger, and arranger Ryan Truesdell told liner-note writer Ashley Kahn that all the inner parts have strong melodies, much as one would write for strings.
