The Tremolo EP came out in February 1991, between Glider and Loveless, and topped the UK indie chart. It leaned harder on samplers. The band used guitar feedback, vocals, a BBC stock sound effects recording that supplies the low end of To Here Knows When, and a Turkish belly-dancing track taken from a cassette for Swallow. The title refers to the band's heavy use of tremolo and vibrato. Shields said in November 1991 that the EP had seven tracks on it, but as that was not allowed they called it four and left three unnamed.
To Here Knows When, Swallow and Honey Power each end in an instrumental coda built on backwards guitar loops and heavy reverb. Angus Cameron directed videos for Swallow and To Here Knows When. Mark Richardson of Pitchfork called Tremolo "the true companion to Loveless" in 2012, and Alexis Petridis of The Guardian put Honey Power ninth in his 2023 ranking of the band's songs.
