"Hallogallo" was recorded in December 1971 at Star Studios in Hamburg with Plank, with Dinger's motorik beat and Rother on guitar and bass. The title plays on Halligalli, slang for wild partying, and hallo. Rother told Electronic Sound that it was conceived as a fast forward piece, travelling a straight road as sky and clouds change, and that it is one of the most optimistic tracks he knows; Plank reversed the tape during overdubs, which inspired new melodies. In 2019 he told The Stranger that every time he hears it he is puzzled again, asking how did it happen. "Neuschnee" derives from it, by German Wikipedia.
Outblinker covered it in 2016, and a 2022 remix by Stephen Morris and Gabe Gurnsey, on Gronland, opens the 50! tribute album, which includes The National, Idles and Mogwai. Adam Curtis's film "While the Band Played On" uses it, and Rother's trio took the name Hallogallo 2010; they played it at Primavera Sound in 2010. No samples or setlist counts were found, and the upload is presumably the studio version.
