Simone plays piano and sings, Rudy Stevenson plays guitar, and Mooney and Horace Ott arranged and conducted. The liner notes by Roger Short say she chose songs with meaningful lyrics, that "Beautiful Land" and "Feeling Good" come from Anthony Newley's show The Roar of the Greasepaint, and that "Gimme Some" is candid in praising sex rather than mocking it; Stroud wrote "Gimme Some" and "Take Care of Business". AllMusic's Richie Unterberger called it one of her most pop-oriented albums, but also one of her best and most consistent. It was reissued in November 2020.
