Torrid Zone
The longest piece on Elastic Rock, a laidback funk groove that leads into "Stonescape" and later gave its name to the 2019 Vertigo box set.
Nucleus, from Elastic Rock (1970)
"Torrid Zone" is track nine of Elastic Rock, 8:41, written by Karl Jenkins, and leads into "Stonescape". Spectrum Culture's Will Pinfold hears in it Carr's most Davis-like playing on the album and calls John Marshall's drumming masterfully tight-loose. Esoteric took the name for Torrid Zone: The Vertigo Recordings 1970-1975 (March 29, 2019). Setlist.fm lists no "Torrid Zone" in any of the seven Ian Carr with Nucleus setlists it holds, which run from 1974 to 1987, and no covers or samples of it were found.
