"Light Flight" opens Basket of Light, 3:14, with McShee singing the lead, recorded at IBC Studios with Shel Talmy producing and Damon Lyon-Shaw and John Pantry engineering. It was registered as a band composition by all five. It was the theme of BBC1's Take Three Girls, the BBC's first colour drama series (November 17, 1969 to January 1, 1971). McShee told Uncut, by Songfacts, that they had a melody but it wasn't finished, and the producers wanted it for the TV show, which was quite racy for the time; two versions were written, a television one and an album one with different lyrics. It uses unusual time signatures, said by Songfacts to shift between 5/8, 7/8 and 6/4.
It reached number 43 on the UK singles chart, with a re-entry at 45. Setlist.fm shows it played seven times by The Pentangle, among their top three, and four times by Jacqui McShee's Pentangle, who played it at Shrewsbury Folk Festival in 2024. Andy Bell of Ride recorded it as the B-side of "Lifeline" from Flicker. It gave its name to a 1997 two-CD compilation.
