Released in 1976 on Hearpen with Cloud 149 on the B-side. It began life as a Rocket From the Tombs song, and it had been meant as the B-side of the first single before Heart of Darkness took its place. Pere Ubu recorded it at Cleveland Recording Company on 26 February and 8 March 1976, engineered by Ken Hamann and produced by the band. The sleeve credits Thomas on vocals, Tom Herman on guitar, Peter Laughner on guitar and backing vocals, Tim Wright on bass, Scott Krauss on drums and Dave Taylor on EML synthesizer and Ace-Tone organ. Wright also wrote the liner notes and designed the cover.
Ravenstine, who did not play on the recording, said his only contribution was a suggestion. At the lyric about the guitar sounding like a nuclear destruction, Taylor had put a big explosion, and Ravenstine said it should be the opposite, a vacuum, so the sound was made to suck itself up. Ravenstine also said the band stopped playing the song for a while because people wanted to hear it all the time. A Record Collector feature argued that the existential angst of early tracks like this one was not autobiography but theatre, and Thomas agreed: "It's all been theatre."
Rough Trade reissued it in June 1980 with My Dark Ages. Peter Murphy covered it on his 1986 debut album.
