Radiohead began writing in March 2005 and went through a slow stretch without Godrich. They brought in the producer Spike Stent in December 2005, but the work with him was discarded. After a tour in May and June 2006 they re-enlisted Godrich, who moved their rhythm tracks onto a single track so they could not be altered. Three weeks in October 2006 at Tottenham House in Wiltshire, where the band lived in caravans, produced Jigsaw Falling into Place and Bodysnatchers. Videotape was recorded and Nude finished in December 2006. Bob Ludwig mastered the album in July 2007 at Gateway Mastering in New York. Yorke wanted a 45-minute statement, so ten songs went on the album and the rest on In Rainbows Disk 2.
The album was released on the band's website on 10 October 2007 as a download for which fans set their own price. ComScore reported in November 2007 that 62 per cent of downloaders paid nothing, a figure Radiohead called wholly inaccurate. Retail release came through XL Recordings on 3 December 2007 and TBD Records in North America on 1 January 2008. It reached number one in Britain with 44,602 copies in its first week and number one on the Billboard 200 with 122,000. More than three million copies had sold by October 2008, and it was the best-selling vinyl record of 2008. At the 51st Grammys it won Best Alternative Music Album and Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, and was nominated for Album of the Year.
