A Simple Thing As Love is track four on Radio John and runs 3:20. Bush sings it and plays mandolin, guitar, banjo and electric bass. Rick Bayles of Americana UK named it as one of Hartford's love songs, heard a nod to the melody of Gentle on My Mind in it, and took it as a sign of what a good banjo player Bush is.
Bush filmed a live performance video of the song for Smithsonian Folkways, and NPR also published a live session video of it. At Wolf Trap in 2023 he played it solo.
