Scott 2 was produced by Johnny Franz with the engineer Peter Olliff and issued in the UK on Philips. In the United States it came out on Smash in July 1968 with different artwork. It spent one week at number one in Britain and 18 weeks on the chart. Jonathan King wrote the liner notes, and the sleeve quotes Walker calling it the work of a lazy, self-indulgent man.
Besides Jackie it holds two more Brel translations, Next and The Girls and the Dogs, and four songs Walker wrote as Scott Engel: The Amorous Humphrey Plugg, The Girls from the Streets, Plastic Palace People and The Bridge. The rest are covers. Tim Hardin wrote Black Sheep Boy, Bacharach and David wrote The Windows of the World, and Wait Until Dark, from the film of that name, is credited to Henry Mancini, Livingston and Evans. Neil Hannon of the Divine Comedy described it as a record about real stuff with disturbing imagery.
The arrangements were shared among Peter Knight, Reg Guest and Wally Stott. Pitchfork's review of the 2013 box set notes that Jackie, the single released ahead of the album, was banned by the BBC, and that the album went to number one.
