Scott 3 was released in the UK on 21 March 1969 and reached number three. Most of it is original Walker material, and the last three tracks are Brel compositions: Sons Of, Funeral Tango and If You Go Away. Sales were slightly lower than for his earlier albums, as pop audiences struggled to keep pace with his more experimental approach.
Wally Stott arranged and conducted most of the tracks and Peter Knight two of them. Keith Altham wrote the sleeve notes. The US Smash pressing dropped 30 Century Man in favor of Lights of Cincinnati, a UK single from the same period, and used a different cover.
The 1981 compilation Fire Escape in the Sky took its title from a lyric in Big Louise, and the 2006 documentary 30 Century Man takes its name from the album's song of that title. Thom Yorke chose It's Raining Today as one of eight records for his imaginary desert island on BBC Radio 4 in September 2019.
