"The Dowie Dens o Yarrow" is a traditional border ballad (Roud 13, Child 214, also called "The Braes of Yarrow"). Its hero is popularly identified as John Scott, killed in Ettrick Forest, though scholars doubt it, and Child recorded at least 19 variants, the earliest from Scott's Minstrelsy in 1803. McDonald's version is track five on side one of Stargazer, credited traditional, arranged McDonald, recorded on May 11, 1971 in London and running 6:53. Wikipedia lists her recording among notable versions alongside Ewan MacColl and A. L. Lloyd (1956), Carolyn Hester (1961), the Corries (1970), Bert Jansch (1973) and Pentangle (1985).

The 2005 compilation Let No Man Steal Your Thyme includes a 0:25 false start and a 7:40 second version. No chart history, video, covers of her version or live performance were found.
